After mid-day’s report, Railways acts to ease women commuters’ struggle on Platform 5

After mid-day highlighted the struggle faced by women commuters at the Kalyan end of platform no. 5 at Dombivli station, railway authorities have finally taken note — and acted. On September 30, officials from the Kalyan railway technical department inspected the site using a regular 15-coach train departing from Kalyan to check alignment and crowd movement.

They eventually decided to remove about five feet 3 inches of fencing on one side of the platform to ease the boarding process for women commuters, particularly those using the staircase, without affecting platform safety or crowd control.
