Spotify founder Daniel Ek will step down as chief executive officer on 1 January 2026 and transition to the role of executive chairman as part of a long-planned leadership restructuring at the world’s largest music streaming platform.

The company said Gustav Söderström, its chief product and technology officer, and Alex Norström, chief business officer, will take over as co-chief executives. Both will join Spotify’s board of directors, subject to shareholder approval, and continue to report to Ek.
