SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio -- For the first time in decades, the city won’t have to subsidize debt service this year on the Chagrin-Lee Urban Renewal District.
Those General Fund payments could range up to $400,000 or more from the General Fund on the roughly $1.2 million annual bond repayment, dating back to the construction of the Shaker Towne Centre in the early 1990s.
“This is the first year in which there was no deficit and the city had sufficient ‘payments in lieu of taxes (PILOTs)’ to cover the full annual debt service,” Economic Development Director Laura Englehart noted in a memo to City Council.
