HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Tensions are rising at Union Plaza in downtown Honolulu after tenants received an eviction notice giving them just four days to leave their homes.

The letter, distributed Saturday morning , says the building must be cleared by Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 5 p.m. due to health and safety concerns, including air conditioning failures, elevator malfunctions and electrical hazards.

Mark Fukuda, who moved into Union Plaza in June, said the short notice leaves tenants with no options.

“It’s highly illegal what they’re doing. I can’t believe people can just throw these things out in the open like that and expect everyone to just move. There’s 200 people here,” Fukuda said.
