A historic school building in Powhatan County will seemingly stick around after a county supervisors vote last week to save it from demolition.

The Powhatan Board of Supervisors voted unanimously last week to deny the county school board’s permit request to demolish parts of the Pocahontas Landmark Center at 4290 Anderson Highway.

The vote against allowing the demolition is the latest step in a years-long debate over what to do with portions of the partly vacant center, several areas of which have been deemed “unsafe” and contain mold and standing water.
