The Norfolk County Employee of the Month Award goes today to Thomas F. Clasby, Jr., also known as “the defendant.”

The official ceremony isn’t until 9:30 this morning, in Courtroom 19 of the federal courthouse in Boston. That’s where the 60-year-old extinguished City of Quincy hack pleads guilty to the usual panoply of federal felonies – embezzlement, mail and wire fraud and interstate transportation of stolen property.

Clasby was the director of elder services for the City of Quincy until his arrest last year. His boss was Mayor Thomas Koch, who had 4,575 reasons for considering Clasby an exemplary employee, all of which had George Washington’s portrait on them.

From 2012 to 2024, Clasby made 20 separate contributions to Mayor Koch, between $125 and $500.
