Energy bills are rising for millions of households in October, which could take its toll as the cold air starts to hit and people begin to turn on their heating.
Ofgem’s new energy price cap means that a typical household will pay £1,755 a year for gas and electricity between 1 October and 31 December, an increase of £35 on its previous rate. That works out at around £3 extra a month.
Every three months, the energy regulator reviews and updates the price cap to reflect changes in the cost of energy and inflation .
The energy price cap doesn’t mean that your household bills can’t exceed £1,755 – some households will pay more and others less. It all depends on how much energy you use, as well as your circumstances like where you live and the energy efficiency of your property.
