Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL) and Adani Defence are among seven industry giants that have submitted their bids to partner with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to design and develop the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), the country's indigenous fifth-generation stealth fighter jet.

The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), which is steering the programme, had set September 30 as the deadline for responses.

The fifth-generation stealth fighter jets are slated to be inducted by the Indian Air Force in the next six years.

The other defence majors include Larsen & Toubro (L&T), Kalyani Strategic Systems and two private-sector bidders.

The bids will be evaluated by a committee led by former DRDO missile scientist A Sivat
