OKTOBERFEST in Munich is shut down after a bomb threat which police linked to a fatal fire and explosion in the city.

One person died in an explosion in, with gunshots also reported, and cops think the perpetrator could be behind the beer festival bomb threat.

Mayor Dieter Reiter said the huge Theresienwiese space would remain closed until at least 5pm local time.

He said this morning: "The police will do everything to have the entire Wiesn searched by 5 p.m. this afternoon, if possible, to ensure safety.

"If that's not the case, I'll get in touch again, and then the Wiesn won't open at all today."

Police found a letter containing a threat against Oktoberfest - which should have opened its doors at 11am.
