Friend of man charged in mother’s death on Staten Island calls sentencing an ‘injustice’

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Following a sentencing hearing Tuesday for a man accused of killing his mother inside her Staten Island home, a friend of the defendant said he felt the punishment was unfair.

Carl Sutera, 60, of Sheldon Avenue in Huguenot, previously pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in connection with the Jan. 22, 2024 incident.
