UNION COUNTY, S.C. —

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a crash in Union County that killed one person and injured another.

Troopers said the crash happened around 11:08 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Monarch Highway and Beltline Road.

Officials said a pickup truck crashed head-on into an SUV. According to troopers, the driver of the SUV died at the scene, and a passenger in the vehicle was transported to a hospital. The driver of the truck was the only occupant in the vehicle and was not injured.

The coroner identified the victim as Daunté Scott Gist, 23, of Union.
