Nearly 21 million Americans live in areas where international physicians make up at least half the doctors. Without them, many communities would simply go without care. In East St. Louis, I see this reality every day as patients arrive without even a dollar to pay for medications while struggling with homelessness and food insecurity.

As an international medical graduate (IMG) physician, I left my home country of Bangladesh, my family, and my community because I was determined to obtain the best training available in the United States.
