After the traditionally light summer months, October is coming in strong on the classical music front, including season-opening concerts by some of the metro area’s most prolific community orchestras …

• The Detroit Symphony Orchestra teams with the acrobatic Troupe Vertigo for four unique shows, starting at 10:45 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3 and including performances at 8 that night and Saturday, Oct. 4, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5. Pieces include Debussy’s “Clair de lune” and selections from films such as “Star Wars,” “Star Trek,” “Up” and others.
