New Delhi: Soft tissue surgeries involve cutting open a patient to perform the delicate procedures inside the body. Surgical robots need very small incisions, through which the instruments can be operated by a surgeon on a console. As the incisions are smaller, the recovery times are faster, with better outcomes for the patients. They free up the beds quicker for other patients, and return faster to their families and jobs. Historically, surgical robotics has been dominated by one platform from an American company, with the arms emerging from a monolithic post, and requiring the surgeon to operate while being hunched over a narrow viewport. The platform is also expensive, making the life-saving technology inaccessible to most people.
