Bengaluru: The Shakti Scheme of the Karnataka government meant to provide women free bus travel service has entered the ‘International Book of Records – World Record of Excellence’, having issued 500 crore tickets free of charge to women passengers.
Transport Minister T Ramalinga Reddy, commenting on the achievement, pointed out that the guarantee scheme had earlier entered the Golden Book of World Records. He said it had empowered women across Karnataka economically, socially and professionally. The minister added with pride that the fact that similar schemes had been implemented in other states was proof of the Shakti’s scheme efficiency and success.
