A Rhode Island man is dead after he was pulled from the water Tuesday night in Westerly.

NBC10 Boston affiliate WJAR reports that police responded near Niantic Avenue around 5:30 p.m. for a person in the water and arrived to find a 63-year-old about 40 yards from shore.

The man was pulled from the water and taken to Westerly Hospital, where he later died, police told WJAR. His name has not been released, and there was no cause of death provided.

No other information was immediately available.
