Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti condemned the detention of 15 youths in Srinagar for allegedly not standing during the national anthem. She said that in Kashmir, people are being forced to stand for the national anthem, even at gunpoint.
Mufti, president of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says, It is unfortunate that the BJP has created such a situation where people are being forced to stand for the national anthem.
When I was a student, we used to stand voluntarily in respect of the national anthem. But now it is being done under pressure. This is a failure of the government.
Actually, on Tuesday evening, 15 youths were detained by the police for remaining seated while the national anthem was being played at the TRC Football Ground in Srinagar.
