Following P Chidambaram’s recent remarks that the UPA government did not retaliate against Pakistan after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks due to international pressure, Congress leader Rashid Alvi on Wednesday questioned the former home minister’s claim.
"Does this mean he was working under US pressure? Such a statement will only benefit the BJP. Why is Chidambaram making this claim after 16 years? If he disagreed at that time, he should have resigned. Many within the Congress want to weaken the party. It is like a house catching fire because of its own lamp,” Alvi told IANS.
Speaking to a news channel, Chidambaram recounted the decision-making process within the government and how international diplomatic pressure, particularly from the United States, shaped India's stance.
