New Delhi: In a breakthrough research, scientists have successfully created human eggs in a lab, thereby setting the stage for a permanent solution to infertility in women. The study was conducted at Oregon Health & Science University in the U.S., and researchers managed to create eggs by transferring a woman’s skin cells into an empty donor egg. The newly produced egg had the ability to carry genetic material as well.

During the experiment, the team created 82 eggs and fertilised them with sperm. However, only a handful — about seven embryos — developed normally, and growth was monitored for just six days before the study concluded. While the findings are groundbreaking, scientists emphasise that this is still in its very early stages. Success rates must be improved, genetic risks need
