Usually when we’re talking about the Harvest Moon, we’re describing the full moon that rises in September when gardens are slowing down and crops are being taken in for the season.

But this weekend and into next week, we’ll see a fairly rare sky show: A Harvest Moon rising in October as the month’s first full moon. Why a month late? It has to do with the timing of our recent autumn equinox, which plays into how certain moons get their names, according to Space.com.

The moon will officially be full on Monday, Oct. 6 at 11:48 p.m. But it will look full starting on Sunday and last through Tuesday, so you’ve got a few chances to see this Harvest Moon rise.
