(WKYT) - In the lead-up to America turning 250 years old, we are looking back every day at ‘This Day In History.’
On this day in 1908, Henry Ford introduced the Model T, a car that would revolutionize the automotive industry.
It was completed at the company’s plant in Detroit.
Between 1908 and 1927, Ford built nearly 15 million Model T cars.
Although it was fairly expensive at first, priced at $825, or $18,000 in today’s prices, it was built for people to drive every day.
It had a 22-horsepower, four-cylinder engine and was made of a new kind of heat-treated steel that made it lighter and stronger than previous vehicles.
The last one rolled off the assembly line in May of 1927.
