LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - State-level cuts across Kentucky could impact seniors who rely on programs like Meals on Wheels.
Funding cuts began Wednesday, Oct. 1, and will lead to about a 60% reduction. For Meals on Wheels, services would go from five meals a week for clients to just two.
Gov. Andy Beshear confirmed the funding support from the American Rescue Plan was running dry and, for some communities, the consequences may mean Meals on Wheels cannot afford to serve them.
“There’s a lot of seniors we have that just cannot cook for themselves, but they don’t have anybody that can come in on a regular basis and cook for them,” Mayfield-Graves County Senior Center Director Jeffery Collins explained. “The only way they can get a decent cooked meal is by the Meals on Wheels program.”
