LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Election season is approaching, and local election officials are preparing for changes following a new state law.

They say that the biggest need now is for more volunteers.

Terri Jordan, the elections administrator for Angelina County, said that there’s always a need for more election volunteers and poll workers. Especially ones that are younger.

“They’re retirees and they’re getting to the point where ‘I can’t do it anymore,’ so now we’re having vacancies. And the younger, middle, and other people aren’t helping and learning so they can step in and take over,” Jordan said.

Data from the Pew Research Center shows that the majority of poll workers are over the age of 60.
