According to the president of Advocates for Northern Animals, there is a “desperate need” for people who are willing to foster dogs.
In an interview with the Northern News, Tracy Barbe stated “post COVID there was a huge number of dogs (surrendered), and we can’t keep up.

“We get, probably, a minimum of five surrender requests a week and that is from all over the place. They are calling us, from everywhere and not just Kirkland Lake.”
Barbe went on to state the crisis is so bad, they currently have as much as a five-month wait list for those wanting to surrender their dogs.
Barbe noted problem of people giving up their dogs is not just a Kirkland Lake or northern Ontario problem, the issue is nation-wide.
