BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) – An explosion caused a NYCHA apartment building to partially collapse in the Bronx on Wednesday morning, officials said.

No injuries have been reported. Video from the scene shows the aftermath of the collapse, with a corner of the 20-story building destroyed.

Locals have been advised to avoid the area while first responders investigate the collapse. Mayor Eric Adams is expected to provide updates Wednesday morning.

What caused the collapse?

Just after 8 a.m., a possible gas explosion on Alexander Avenue caused the building’s incinerator shaft to collapse, according to the FDNY. A spokesperson for Con Edison said it is too soon to tell if the explosion was gas-related.
