VALPARAISO — Police say a 51-year-old area man, who caused a head-on collision while driving up to four times the speed limit in the downtown area, had a 2-year-old child improperly secured in his vehicle.
Shawn Griffin, of Porter, has been charged with neglect of a dependent, possession of cocaine, reckless driving causing bodily harm, resisting law enforcement, and faces allegations of a child restraint system violation and passing in a no-passing zone, records show.
He appeared to remain in custody early Wednesday at the Porter County Jail.
The allegations stem back to 11 a.m. Aug. 4 when Chesterton police said they responded to a head-on collision in the area of Calumet Road and Broadway.
