FLYERS should expect delays at airport security lanes thanks to a partial government shutdown that began on Wednesday, travel experts have warned.

Gridlocked Democrats and Republicans failed to come to terms over a spending bill , and now Americans are paying the price.

Under the shutdown, airport employees, including air traffic controllers and Transportation Security Administration workers, will be forced to work without pay, The New York Times reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration and Customs and Border Protection are also among the agencies that will be affected by the federal spending freeze .

Most employees, including those who screen at checkpoints, are considered essential, so they're still required to work.
