A popular fish and chip restaurant in Whitby has made the ten-strong shortlist in a national awards scheme. Trenchers on New Quay Road is in the running for the top award of Restaurant of the Year in the National Fish and Chip Awards.

The awards recognise amazing food, passion for the sector, quality and high-level commitment to serving customers. The Whitby restaurant, which scooped the top award in 2019, will first find out if it makes the highest scoring five, before the semi-finals to be announced later this year. The overall winner will be crowned on February 25 at the awards ceremony at the Park Plaza, Westminster Bridge, in London.
