Here's a brief history of the company Corteva Agriscience's seed business, which will now be known as SpinCo.
1926
Iowa-born Henry A. Wallace, a future U.S. vice president, leads a group that founds the Hi-Bred Corn Co. in Des Moines to produce and market new hybrid corn seed. The seed initially is produced on 40 acres Wallace bought in 1919 in what was then Grimes near Johnston, which will become the company's base.
1933
Wallace steps away from the growing company to become President Franklin D. Roosevelt's secretary of agriculture but continues to advise Hi-Bred.
1935
Hi-Bred becomes the Pioneer Hi-Bred Corn Co.
1971
The company changes its name to Pioneer Hi-Bred International to reflect its growing market. Eventually, it will have operations in 70 countries
