Some will be thrilled. Others will be devastated.

As of 12:01 Wednesday morning, the federal government has shut down — and with it, San Francisco Fleet Week has likely lost its biggest draw. Due to the impasse, no Blue Angels are expected to be roaring over the city, and no U.S. Navy ships are expected to be docking at the Embarcadero.

The shutdown, triggered by Congress’ failure to reach a budget agreement, means all nonessential military operations are halted.

“The Blues would not be able to fly,” Brian O’Rourke, a spokesperson for the Navy, told the Mercury News . O’Rourke also confirmed that even the two Navy ships docked in San Diego that were scheduled to arrive on Friday would not be making the voyage.
