ALBANY AND WASHINGTON, DC — NEW YORK’S ATTORNEY GENERAL LETITIA JAMES HAS SUED THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY FOR WITHHOLDING FUNDS disbursed under the Transit Security Grant Program.

In her lawsuit and emergency motion for a temporary restraining order, filed Tuesday, Sept. 30, Attorney General James alleges that DHS Secretary Kristi Noem unlawfully withheld funding that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority requested under the TSGP. Despite the MTA’s stated need and record ridership, DHS cut New York’S award from nearly $34 million to zero – a decision James said appeared designed to punish New York for what the Trump administration has described as its “sanctuary” immigration policies.
