New York Attorney General Letitia James sued the U.S. Department of Homeland Security late Tuesday after she alleges it illegally withheld millions of dollars in federal funding for MTA security measures.
James said the transit system planned to use the roughly $33 million to fight terrorism and other safety threats. The projects include upgrading security systems across New York City subways and buses to protect riders from chemical and explosive threats through surveillance, cybersecurity defenses and emergency evacuation protocols, according to her office.
