More access to data and a renewed focus on patient flow are helping lower emergency department wait times at Bluewater Health.

“A game-changer for us is having data, to review our wait times and share it with staff,” said Bluewater Health care transitions vice-president Lisa Regan.

Bluewater Health was unable to track data, such as how long it takes admitted patients to get to an inpatient bed from the emergency room because of a cyberattack two years ago that crippled hospital systems and resulted in 5.6 million stolen records.

That data came back around in November, when the hospital group implemented a new hospital information system for patient records and other data keeping.

In January, Bluewater Health announced it was rebooting the No One Waits initiativ
