An Orleans Parish judge sentenced former New Orleans 911 director Tyrell Morris to a year in jail and 1,000 hours of community service after his conviction last week on four felony counts for trying to cover up a 2023 crash in his public vehicle.
Criminal District Judge Simone Levine handed down the sentence after Morris pleaded for his freedom, trembling in shackles and orange jail scrubs while apologizing to the judge for calling her a "b**ch" in a jail phone call after she'd ordered him detained last week.
"You have done this community wrong," Levine said, citing the cost to taxpayers for not keeping Morris in jail longer.
