Wildfire alert near Hill City

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) - A wildfire alert has been issued for the Gertie Fire, one mile west of Hill City in the Cowboy Gulch area.

The U.S. Forest Service says firefighters from multiple agencies are responding to the fire. The estimated size of the fire is three to five acres.

Engines, water tenders, a dozer, a hand crew, and a fire investigator have been ordered to the scene. No evacuations are currently in effect.

Smoke is prevalent in Hill City and nearby areas. The U.S. Forest Service is telling people not to call 911 to report smoke.
