LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky is at the top of the country when it comes to domestic abuse cases.
It’s not a statistic to be proud of, but one that Kentucky is leading the nation in addressing, partially by expanding the address confidentiality program.
“We’ve become a model to other states that they are now looking to, so we are now hosting the national conference here in Lexington,” shared Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams.
If an abuser were to look up their victim’s address on a voter roll, it would show up as the state capitol’s address. That’s been the extent of protection for victims for around a decade.
As of 2023, Kentucky now has further protections that victim advocacy groups are taking note of in the days-long conference.
