A Valencia business owner pleaded guilty to four counts of failure to collect payroll taxes for the Internal Revenue Service in a case where he had underpaid taxes by nearly half a million dollars, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Michael D. Funovits, 49, failed to submit payroll taxes from 2016 to 2023 for his businesses PennRo Associates and Penn Exteriors, according to a Monday news release from the Department of Justice.
Court records show Funovits will pay the IRS $498,948.58 plus interest in restitution for unpaid taxes. He was credited $5,284.84 for an overpayment in 2016.
Prosecutors allege Funovits used PennRo Associates revenue for personal expenditures such as vacations, hunting trips and for tickets to sporting events and concerts.
