WASHINGTON, D.C. – 17th District Congressman Eric Sorensen (D-Moline) says he’s in Washington, D.C. for the long haul to end a government shutdown. And that’s even if his Republican colleagues do not join him.

“I’m going to remain here in Washington D.C. waiting for them to return, so we can open up the government. Every minute they’re not here is another minute Americans are going to suffer,” Sorensen said.

Sorensen addressed the media on Wednesday morning, hours after the federal government shutdown when the Senate did not pass a House-approved funding bill. There’s no timeline on when a stopgap funding bill to reopen the government will occur.

Sorensen says the blame for the shutdown should go to President Trump, who he says controls the House, Senate, and White House.
