BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — The State of Tennessee has set an execution date of December 3, 2026 for Gary Wayne Sutton, who was convicted of murdering a brother and sister but has maintained his innocence.

In two separate trials, Sutton was convicted of murdering Tommy Griffin in Blount County and Connie Branam in Sevier County in 1992, who were brother and sister. For his conviction Branam's death, Sutton was sentenced to life, and in Griffin's death, he was sentenced to death. His co-defendant, James Dellinger, died in 2023 while awaiting execution for his conviction in Griffin's death.

Griffin, was found dead in February 1992 after being shot in the back of the head with a shotgun. He had last been seen with Sutton and Dellinger after they posted his bond on public intoxication char
