SPICELAND, Ind. — A 50-year tradition is coming to an end as the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana recently announced the closure and sale of Camp Ada.

Located south of New Castle, Camp Ada consists of 78 acres of rolling pastures and woodlands. Since 1971, Camp Ada has served as the summer backdrop for generations of Hoosier girls' adventures.

But the bunkhouses and dining hall, once alive with the sound of young girls' twittering excitement, now stand empty and silent. A for-sale sign is staked into the property where young girls once roamed in search of adventure.

Now, the only search is for a buyer.

“This was an incredibly difficult decision, and one that we considered from every angle,” said Stephanie Smithey, chair of Girl Scouts of Indiana’s board of directors.
