WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Federal Government official closed down at midnight and, like most Republicans, Sen. John Curtis isn’t happy about it.
“Today, I voted to keep the federal government open and to prevent unnecessary harm to hardworking, taxpaying families in Utah and across America,” said Curtis, after the Senate when home Sept. 30 without reaching a settlement that would have prevented the shutdown.
“Sadly, our measure failed without enough Democratic support. Once again, Washington’s dysfunction has forced a shutdown.”
The measure that Curtis referred to was a stopgap bill that would have funded government operations for another seven weeks, but failed after a mid-evening vote of 55-to-45 that needed 60 votes for approval under Senate rules.
