BOISE, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The deadline for Idaho taxpayers with automatic extensions to file their state income taxes is approaching. While most taxpayers file by April 15 , those with an extension have until Oct. 15 to submit their payment.

Oct. 15 is the deadline to file Idaho state taxes, according to the Idaho State Tax Commission. Idaho allows residents to avoid a penalty for filing past the April 15 deadline, but a 6% interest rate is tacked on. However, even with an extension, any tax owed must be paid at the time of filing.

“Taxpayers have submitted more than 992,000 individual income tax returns this year,” said Tax Commission Chairman Jeff McCray. “We anticipate receiving about 46,000 more.”
