A Sarnia man has been jailed about eight months for a series of incidents where he threatened several strangers, including teenagers heading to their bus stop and a pizza store employee, and used violent, racist and homophobic language.

While sentencing Ross Moran, Justice Mark Poland said his behaviour was out of control and frightening and his language was deplorable and appalling.

But the judge also noted his moral blameworthiness was significantly attenuated by his mental health challenges.

“The Mr. Moran who is in the prisoner’s box today is no doubt a very, very different person than the one who was out in the community engaging in all this concerning and disruptive behaviour,” Poland said in a Sarnia courtroom during Moran’s recent sentencing hearing.
