Political observers have noted the lack of talk in Ottawa about tackling climate change since Prime Minister Mark Carney was elected nearly five months ago.

Some Haldimand-Norfolk residents want to change that.

A citizens’ group called Climate Action Haldimand-Norfolk held a rally outside town hall in Simcoe on a recent Saturday calling for the federal government to prioritize climate change mitigation and economic sustainability.

“As a parent, I can spend my day-to-day making sure my kids eat healthy, get a good education and experience opportunities for growth,” said co-organizer Karla Falk from Climate Action Haldimand-Norfolk.

“But none of this will matter if there isn’t a safe and livable planet in their future. Our time is dwindling to get on the right side of the future
