The Waterford Ponds are renowned across the county and beyond for their beauty and serenity.

A group of geocachers is looking to keep it that way.

Geocaching is a real-world treasure-hunting game where participants use a GPS-enabled device or mobile apps to find hidden containers located at specific geographic coordinates.

On Tuesday, a small and mostly local group held one of its CITO events at the ponds just west of Waterford. CITO stands for “Cache In Trash Out”, where a group of folks pick up trash at popular cache sites.

“It’s what we do to give back to the community, and this week we’ve had a bunch of CITOs because there was a mega event that went on in Burford,” said local cacher Karen Daniel
