The plaza outside of the South Carolina statehouse was packed with booths and protesters ahead of a Senate committee hearing on an out-right abortion ban with few exceptions.

Members of the South Carolina Senate Medical Affairs Committee gathered in the Gressette Building on Oct. 1 for a hearing on S.323, also called the "Unborn Child Protection Act." The proposal seeks to ban all abortions in South Carolina, removing the fetal heartbeat timeline under the state's current law. It also rolls back all exceptions to the abortion ban, except in case of medical emergency.
