A Muscogee Nation citizen has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review an Oklahoma Supreme Court ruling, which held that the state could tax tribal citizens despite them living and working within the tribe’s reservation.

Attorneys for Alicia Stroble filed the request Monday with the U.S. Supreme Court. The move comes after the state Supreme Court ruled July 1 against the Muscogee Nation member on the taxation issue.

At the heart of Stroble’s petition is her contention that the U.S. Supreme Court’s McGirt ruling regarding the Muscogee Nation reservation extends beyond criminal matters to civil matters such as income taxes.
