In a bid to cut down on vehicle pollution and reduce friction with pedestrians and cyclists in southwest Deteroit, new restrictions on truck routes will take effect Monday.
The city is banning truck traffic in southwest Detroit on portions of major roads that pass through residential areas, and all residential streets. Sam Krassenstein, the chief of infrastructure and deputy director for Detroit's Department of Public Works, said commercial trucks have long taken shortcuts through residential areas to get to the nearby freeways, and the city has not stopped it.
"Our goal as a city is to design roads for people, and today we're taking many of those steps to return many of these streets to the people of southwest Detroit," said Krassenstein at a news conference Wednesday at Boyer Park, nea
