Walmart has pledged to remove 11 synthetic dyes from its private food brands by January 2027.
The retail giant announced on Wednesday, Oct. 1, that it will remove 11 synthetic dyes and 31 other ingredients, including certain preservatives, artificial sweeteners and fat substitutes, from its Great Value, Marketside, Freshness Guaranteed and bettergoods branded products.
The announcement comes after U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said in April that eight artificial dyes will be "phased out" of medications and the nation's food supply by the end of 2026. These dyes are FD&C Blue Nos. 1 and 2, FD&C Green No. 3, FD&C Red No. 40 and FD&C Yellow Nos. 5 and 6.
