CRANFORD, N.J. (PIX11) – A 17-year-old boy was arrested after a hit-and-run killed two girls in Cranford on Monday, according to prosecutors.
Officials said it happened on Burnside Avenue around 5:30 p.m. The two girls, who sources said are teenagers, were both hit by a car while on e-bikes.
Officials said the victims were taken to local hospitals, where they both died. Witnesses told NewsNation local affiliate WPIX that the driver tried to flee the scene after he hit the teenagers.
“Her mom just screamed,” said Leo De Cristoforo, who lives in the area. “I just heard a loud scream, and I ran out my door and she was just crying; her brother saw her get hit and they said it was on purpose, and they were just crying.”
